The Earth Mother

 

This design was inspired by the Neolithic Stone and Terra Cotta images of the pregnant Goddess, found through out Europe.  this Corn Goddess Represents the fertility of the Earth and the renewing aspect of the planting of grain.  Her bounty is represented by the fullness of the wheat heads ripe and  ready for the harvest and her full figure represent her promise of plenty.  Rejoice and be thankful.

The Monmouthshire Maiden

 

This ancient weave has kept its rustic and primitive look over the centuries.  This Maiden was a symbol of Mother Earth and represented the four seasons of life.  Ancient people believed in her renewing powers and honored her with this weave.

The Triple Goddess
Norse Norns

 

The Triple Goddess, believed by the ancients to control the fates, the first aspect was Creation, Urd, The Earth Mother. The second aspect was Verhandi, Becoming, and Skuld the last aspect Shall be, or Fate.  These aspects could be seen everywhere, in the phases of the moon, Waxing, Full and Waning.  In the planting of the field, watching the crops ripen then the barren time of winter awaiting the renewal of the fields in spring.

The Saxons called Skuld, Skadi,  When the Romans Latinized her name to Scotia, Scandinavia and Scotland were named after her.  Possibly due to the cold harsh winters of those lands.

 The Harvest is a very ancient symbol of the Earth Mother.  The center part is the womb of the Earth, from which we are born and to which we must return.  The figure as a whole represents the fertility and abundance of the Earth.
